We recently took challenge from a Milton homeowner whom needed to know where her dryer vent was located outside her home. 3 years in her 9 year old home, she’d just had the board in her dryer replaced and was told to check the dryer vent by the appliance technician. Basically the dryer had over heated and caused the board to malfunction. Normally a dryer would blow the thermal fuse or the heating element, this time the dryers control board went.
Do You Know Where Your Dryer Vented to Outside?
Unable to find the dryer vent on the outside of the Milton home she called in a HVAC company to help locate where the dryer went … They were not able to locate the vent and charged her a fee for their service. Then she called Dryer Vent Cleaner and we came to take a look. What we uncovered was a Mattamy home that had all the duct work in place but was butted up to the outside wall only they forgot to drill through the wall and connect the dryer vent to a vent cap. Using our specialist tools we were able to locate the exact location of the dryer duct work.

Because the inside of the home was finished we had to open up a small bulkhead to see if a pilot hole could be drilled through to locate it where to do the Dryer Vent Install. It turned out where the dryer vent needed to be drilled was 18 feet up on the side of the house talk about a challenge! Once drilled through we added extra duct work and fitted the vent cap on the outside! The dryer was now hooked up to the outside world!

We added a bird proof cage over this dryer vent cap because it was in a wind tunnel the flaps on the vent cap were blowing open providing an open house for any birds looking to nest inside a nice warm dryer vent, we can also remove bird nests. This bird proof cage has a catch to allow easy cleaning of the louvres and has a lot of space around it to allow lint to not accumulate. We prefer not to use screens or cages but this is not always possible.
